Pentair IntelliCenter
Pentair's current automation, where every system is the same board plus a card — and where a 2026 consolidation cut the lineup from twenty-two items to six.

Every IntelliCenter is the same board with a different card in it. That is the single most useful thing to know about the system, and it changes what a quote should look like.
The i5P is always underneath
Pentair's installation guide sets it out plainly. The i5P main system board, part 521909, carries four auxiliary circuits and one dedicated filter pump circuit. Every larger configuration is that board with a personality kit added to it:
Single equipment — one body of water, pool only or spa only:
- i8P, 521910 — three more circuits, for seven plus the filter pump
- i10P, 521911 — five more, for nine plus the filter pump
Shared equipment — a pool and spa on one filtration system:
- i5PS, 521912 — the card that makes a single-body system a pool-and-spa one
- i8PS, 521913 — that, plus three circuits, for seven
- i10PS, 521914 — plus five, for nine
Dual equipment — a pool and spa with separate sets of gear, each with its own temperature:
- i10D, 521915 — nine circuits and two dedicated filter pump outputs, the only card that adds a second
So wanting one more circuit, or wanting to add a spa, is a card in the enclosure already on your wall. It is not a new control system, and a quote that says otherwise is worth a second opinion.
The ceiling is a long way up: 39 auxiliary circuits using up to three expansion enclosures, 16 IntelliFlo pumps, two bodies of water, multiple RS-485 heaters, two indoor panels, and valves expandable to ten with the separate valve expansion kit, 522038z.
Twenty-two SKUs became six in 2026
Pentair published a cross-reference sheet with a blunt opening line: to simplify ordering and inventory, the IntelliCenter lineup has been consolidated from 22 items to 6.
The four current full systems are identical in almost every respect — five relays expandable to ten, salt chlorine generator transformer included, high-powered wireless included, salt cell blank kit included. What separates them is what is in the box for valves:
- 523999 — no valve actuators
- 524000 — two Compool actuators
- 524001 — two IntelliValve actuators
- 524002 — no valve actuators, replacing a different set of legacy items
Then two that the consolidation did not touch, and they are a different animal:
- 523911 — Lite, five relays, no actuators
- 523910 — Lite, five relays, two Compool actuators
Two things follow. First, the personality kit choice has moved: you no longer pick i5 or i8 or i10 at purchase. Every current system ships as five relays expandable to ten, and the capacity decision happens later, as a card. Second, if you are holding an old part number, the sheet maps it — and most of the old catalog, including 521904 and 521907, now lands on 524001.
That last point matters if you are working from the EasyTouch migration list. Pentair's 2023 transition guide told EasyTouch owners to order 521904, 521907, 521903 and the rest. Those are now legacy items on this sheet. The mapping still works; it just has an extra hop.
Load center or power center
The distinction is not marketing, and it decides what your electrician has to do.
A load center has a built-in breaker subpanel. A power center does not — it needs a separate panel to feed it. Pentair's installation guide gives them separate chapters and separate knockout diagrams, and calls out 523910 and 523911 as power centers with their own layout.
Those two are the Lite systems, and the trade is visible on the cross-reference sheet: no breaker subpanel, no salt chlorine generator transformer, and plain Wi-Fi rather than the high-powered wireless the full systems ship with.
The salt transformer being standard on the four full systems is worth pausing on. On the EasyTouch, whether the transformer was fitted was a purchase decision people made once and then discovered years later when they wanted salt. On the current IntelliCenter lineup that fork is gone from the full systems and preserved in the Lite ones.
Whichever you fit, the supply is protected by a 150 A maximum, 240 VAC main breaker.
Three apps in one product's life
Worth knowing if the app is why you are buying it.
The IntelliCenter launched paired with ScreenLogic2, the interface it inherited from the EasyTouch generation. Pentair's 2023 automation transition material described it as pairing with the IntelliCenter2 app. The product page now says the IntelliCenter is a member of the Pentair Pool app family, and that owners can now control their system on the Pentair Pool app.
Three apps across one product's life is not a fault, and the current one is the most capable of them. It is a reason to weigh the hardware on what it does at the pad rather than on the app of the moment — and a reason to be glad of the one specification the EasyTouch never had.
Over-the-air updates, which the last generation did not get
The IntelliCenter takes over-the-air software updates.
Set that against the system it replaced: EasyTouch firmware stopped at version 2.190 in June 2021 and there will not be another. Anything wrong with an EasyTouch today is wrong permanently.
On a control system that talks to pumps, heaters, lights and a chlorinator over a serial bus, and to a phone over the internet, being able to update it is a large part of what you are buying. It is also the least visible thing on the specification sheet.
What Pentair promises on superseded items
Pentair's wording here stops short of what it said about the EasyTouch, and the difference is worth noticing.
The bundle transition guide says products moved to obsolete status will continue to be supported, and that Pentair will replace legacy systems under warranty with comparable equipment while parts are available.
The EasyTouch notice said that too, word for word, and then added a commitment: if the parts needed to fulfill a warranty claim were unavailable, Pentair will provide the IntelliCenter Upgrade Kit for the EasyTouch, EasyTouch Lite and IntelliTouch. There is no equivalent sentence here.
That is a fair difference — an EasyTouch is a decade past its design life and a superseded IntelliCenter SKU is not — but if you are buying a bundle on a closing-out part number, "while parts are available" is the phrase you are relying on.
One number to carry with you if you are: the bundles now ship the IntelliChlor Plus 40, part 523735, in place of the IC40, 520555.
Which model do you have?
The model number is on the control system label. Everything else in the range is shared — these are the parts that change with it.
| Model | SKU | Relays | Valve actuators | Wireless | Salt transformer | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IntelliCenter, no valve actuators | 523999 | 5, expandable to 10 | None included | High powered | — | Five relays expandable to ten, salt chlorine generator transformer, high-powered wireless and a cell blank kit, all included. Replaces 523448, 523125, 523963 and 523962. |
| IntelliCenter, Compool valve actuators | 524000 | 5, expandable to 10 | Two, Compool | High powered | — | The same system with two Compool actuators in the box — the pick when you are replacing a system whose valves already carry Compool actuators. Replaces 523687, 523686, 523967, 523968 and 523966. |
| IntelliCenter, IntelliValve actuators | 524001 | 5, expandable to 10 | Two, IntelliValve | High powered | — | Two IntelliValve actuators included. This is where most of the old catalog landed — it replaces 521907, 523126, 521904, 523127, 523965, 523964 and 523914, which between them were the i5PS, i8P, i8PS and i10PS systems. |
| IntelliCenter, no actuators, second configuration | 524002 | 5, expandable to 10 | None included | High powered | — | Replaces 523961, 523915, 523909 and 523969 — the i8PS and i10D end of the old range. Same five relays expandable to ten. |
| IntelliCenter Lite, no actuators | 523911 | 5 | — | Wi-Fi rather than high powered | Not included | Unchanged by the consolidation. A power center rather than a load center, so no built-in breaker subpanel, no salt transformer, and plain Wi-Fi in place of the high-powered wireless. |
| IntelliCenter Lite, Compool actuators | 523910 | 5 | — | Wi-Fi rather than high powered | Not included | The same power center with two Compool actuators. Also unchanged, and also without the salt transformer. |
Pentair IntelliCenter parts, and what goes wrong
Read off the manufacturer’s parts list and checked before it ships. Open a row for what a bad one actually does — or start from the symptom and work down, which is the cheaper order.
What is it doing?
The board underneath every IntelliCenter ever sold. Four auxiliary circuits and one dedicated filter pump circuit on its own, and every larger configuration is this board with a card added to it. If you are pricing a repair, this is the part that is common to all of them.
Live pricing arrives when the retailer programs are approved.
Three additional auxiliary circuits on top of the i5P, for seven plus the filter pump. Single equipment — pool only or spa only. A card, not a system, which is the thing worth knowing before anybody quotes you a new load center for wanting one more circuit.
Live pricing arrives when the retailer programs are approved.
Five additional auxiliary circuits, for nine plus the filter pump. Still single body — the P is what says so, and it is the same letter Pentair used on the EasyTouch.

Added to the i5P main board for a pool and spa sharing one filtration system. This is the card that turns a single-body IntelliCenter into a shared-equipment one, and it is the cheapest route to a spa on an existing installation.
Live pricing arrives when the retailer programs are approved.
Pool and spa on shared equipment, plus three additional auxiliary circuits for a total of seven. The middle of the shared-equipment range.
Live pricing arrives when the retailer programs are approved.
Pool and spa on shared equipment with five additional auxiliary circuits, for nine. The largest shared-equipment card, and the one most of the old bundled systems shipped with.
Live pricing arrives when the retailer programs are approved.
Dual equipment — a pool and a spa each with their own set of gear and their own temperature setting. Five additional auxiliary circuits and a second dedicated filter pump circuit, so nine aux and two filter pumps. The only card that adds a filter pump output.
Live pricing arrives when the retailer programs are approved.
The board handles intake and return plus A and B valve circuits as standard. Beyond that this kit takes a shared-equipment system up to ten valves. Worth knowing before somebody proposes a second control system for a water feature.

The new cell in the IntelliCenter bundles, replacing the IC40 that carried part number 520555. If you are ordering a bundle or a replacement cell for one, that number changed — the IntelliChlor page has the rest of the range.
Live pricing arrives when the retailer programs are approved.
If you are doing the job anyway
Almost everything here is a card rather than a box. Before accepting a quote for a new control system, establish whether what you want is a personality kit, an expansion enclosure or a valve expansion kit — all three go into the enclosure already on the wall.
Adding a spa to a pool-only system
A personality kit on the existing i5P board rather than a new system. Which one depends on whether the spa shares the filtration equipment or has its own.

Running out of circuits
Circuits come from the personality kit, and valves come from a separate expansion kit. People discover the second one after buying the first.

Pentair IntelliCenter warranty
1 year parts
One year, which is what Pentair's warranty page gives all automation equipment — with one inversion worth knowing, because the IntelliCenter Pool Control Upgrade Kit carries three. Pentair's wording on superseded IntelliCenter items is worth reading beside what it said about the EasyTouch, because it is weaker. The bundle transition guide says products moved to obsolete status will continue to be supported and that Pentair will replace legacy systems under warranty with comparable equipment while parts are available. The EasyTouch notice used the same words and then went further, committing to provide the IntelliCenter Upgrade Kit if warranty parts could not be found. The bundle guide stops short of that, so on a superseded IntelliCenter SKU the fallback is narrower than the one offered to the system it replaced.
