Hayward TracJet

Hayward's tracked pressure cleaner: the plumbing and booster pump it needs, the wheel speed that decides if it climbs, and a warranty its documents dispute.

A pressure-side pool cleaner on the floor of a pool, a white body with blue trim and a blue handle on black rubber tank tracks with white spoked wheels, a see-through white mesh debris canister on a black cone on top, and a white hose with a gray swivel rising from it

The TracJet is Hayward's pressure-side cleaner, marked NEW on Hayward's April 2026 price schedule. It runs on tank tracks rather than wheels, on water from a booster pump through a dedicated line, and collects debris in its own bag. Hayward rates it for in-ground pools up to 20 by 40 feet, cleaning floors and walls on a two-hour cycle. It comes as the TJP100C from pool stores and the W3TJP100C online.

What it needs before it will run

  • A booster pump. The sell sheet says it's required, and the manual names Hayward's HSP30060 "or equivalent". Hayward lists that pump at 1.1 total horsepower. It is a second pump, with its own running cost; what a booster pump adds is worth reading before you buy.
  • A dedicated cleaner line with a wall fitting. The fitting in the box threads into a 1-1/2 inch female-threaded line. A 3/4 inch line needs a 1-1/2 inch NPTF x 3/4 inch NPTM adapter as well, which isn't included.
  • An in-ground pool. Hayward lists both versions for in-ground pools.

In the box: the cleaner, the wall connection, the wall fitting, the hose with its in-line filter and valve, 10 hose floats and a debris bag.

Before the first run

  1. Net out large debris by hand. The manual says not to use the TracJet to remove large debris in a new pool.
  2. Backwash or clean the filter, and empty the skimmer and pump baskets.
  3. Check the water. The manual's table gives pH 7.2 to 7.6, chlorine 0.5 to 1.5 ppm and total alkalinity 80 to 150 ppm. If you've just shocked the pool, wait one to two days. That chlorine range is Hayward's figure for the cleaner. It isn't a sanitizing target: in a stabilized pool, free chlorine needs to sit well above it, as balancing pool chemistry explains.

Installing it

Turn off the filter pump and the booster pump first.

  1. Remove any plug or old wall fitting from the dedicated line.
  2. Wrap Teflon tape on the wall fitting's plastic threads and screw it into the line.
  3. Lay the hose straight in direct sun for three hours before first use.
  4. Connect the hose to the wall fitting. Line up the cams and turn it to the right until the o-ring is no longer visible.
  5. Size the hose. Run it from the wall fitting to the farthest point of the pool. Mark it 2 feet past the edge there, then measure from that mark to the end of the leader hose swivel. That's your excess.
  6. Cut the excess. If it's under 3 feet, cut it all from the last main hose section, on the side nearest the wall fitting. Over 3 feet, cut a third of it from each main section, again on the wall fitting side. Cut square, at 90°, or the joints leak.
  7. To take a hose section off its barb, hold the fixed side of the swivel, unscrew the nut toward the swivel, and pull the hose out. To put it back, push the hose onto the barb with the nut on it, and twist the nut away from the swivel to tighten.
  8. Fit eight floats where the manual's diagram shows them. Put the spares near the ends of the hose if needed.
  9. Connect the hose to the cleaner and turn to tighten. Fit the debris bag: press the lid clips into the top notch, line up the notches and turn to lock, then extend the bag and clip it to the hose.

Running it, and setting the speed

Lift it by the handle, lower it in and let the hose take it to the floor. Then turn on the filter pump and the booster pump.

Set the speed before judging how it cleans. Hayward's warning is plain: too much pressure hurts performance and wears parts early, and too little stops it cleaning properly.

  1. Pull the cleaner up until it's just under the surface, still submerged, and hold it level.
  2. Count the turns of the back wheel on the hose side for one minute. Marking a rib on the wheel helps.
  3. The target is 26 to 32 RPM. Adjust it with a flathead screwdriver on the knob on the wall connection.

The rules the manual sets

  • Take it out before you shock the pool, and before you backwash.
  • No swimmers while it's in the pool.
  • Store the hose straight. Never coil it.
  • Store the cleaner in shade, never in direct sun.
  • Don't open it, or reach inside it or under it, while it's running.

Taking it out

Turn off the filter and booster pumps. Pull the hose to bring the cleaner up, and lift it out by the handle, never by the debris bag. Then disconnect the hose from the cleaner, take the bag off to clean, and disconnect the hose from the wall.

Looking after it

The debris bag. Empty it after every use, when it's half full, and after sand or other heavy debris, because a full bag slows the cleaner. Disconnect the hose, twist the bag connector and pull it up. Take off the lid, empty the bag and rinse it.

The in-line filter. Clean it regularly. Unscrew it, take out the screen, rinse the screen under running water, and check the o-ring is in place and seated before closing it. If the screen keeps plugging, Hayward says the pool's filtration isn't working properly or there's a plumbing problem.

Winter. Take the cleaner out and drain all the water from it. If needed, take off the top cover and turn it over to drain. Freeze damage isn't covered by the warranty. Remove the wall valve from the wall fitting, and drain the hose by pulling it out of the pool hand over hand.

When it isn't cleaning properly

Disconnect the cleaner before servicing. Hayward's troubleshooting, condensed:

  • Won't climb the wall: aim the rear jet upward, empty the bag, clean the in-line filter, check the speed is 26 to 32 RPM, and check the hose connections are secure.
  • Runs with its front wheels off the floor: empty the bag and make sure it's clipped to the hose. Add a hose section, check the float placement, aim the rear jet downward, or lower the RPM.
  • Gets stuck on obstacles: aim the rear jet downward.
  • Keeps to one area: point the pool's return jets away from the surface.
  • Hose stays coiled: straighten it and remove the tangles.
  • Falls over or runs upside down: empty the bag and clip it to the hose. If it's slow to right itself, check the floats.
  • Slow or no forward movement, or can't reach 26 RPM: check the wall valve setting, the hose connection to the cleaner, and the o-ring on the hose connector. Make sure the filter pump is on and the booster pump's valves are open. Check the plumbing valves, and clean the in-line filter.
  • Not picking up debris: empty the bag, push the check valve into the bag, and clean the in-line filter. Open the wall valve for more pressure while keeping 26 to 32 RPM, and clear any tangles or kinks.
  • Debris coming out of the bag: secure the lid, or empty the bag.
  • Tracks slipping: rinse debris out of the treads. Worn tracks get replaced with TJX102KIT.

Warranty and where to buy

The TJP100C is Expert Line: 2 years parts and 1 year in-store labor, from a pool store or service company. A Totally Hayward dealer can extend the labor to 2 years in-store.

The W3TJP100C is Open Line, approved for sale online. It has no labor coverage, and whether parts get 1 year or 2 depends on which Hayward document you read. Keep the receipt either way. Hayward's warranty only applies to products bought from Hayward or an authorized seller, and registering adds 90 days.

Amazon had no TracJet listing when this page was checked.

Where Hayward's documents disagree, or are unclear

  • Open Line warranty. The W3TJP100C product page says 2 years parts. The 2026 Open Line terms give Open Line products 1 year and name only salt cells and TracVac cleaners as exceptions.
  • Expert Line warranty. The sell sheet carries a banner promising 3+ year parts and labor warranties from a Totally Hayward partner. The 2026 Expert Line terms give pressure cleaners 2 years parts with either dealer, and 2 years in-store labor at most.
  • Where it's sold. The sell sheet says "Only from pool pros". The W3TJP100C is sold online.
  • Size. The sell sheet gives the cleaner as 13 x 10.45 x 9.1 inches. The dimension drawing labels it 12.92 inches tall with the bag, 12.8 inches wide and 40.8 inches long.
  • The tread kit. The troubleshooting table says to replace the tracks with TJX102KIT. The parts table calls TJX102KIT a half tread kit, and the diagram shows a tread on both sides.
  • The booster pump. The manual names the Expert Line HSP30060. Hayward's Open Line booster, W36060, has the same 1.1 total horsepower on its product page. The 2026 price schedule lists the W36060 as a 3/4 HP booster pump.

Hayward TracJet warranty

2 years parts, 1 year in-store labor

For the Expert Line TJP100C, 2 years parts and 1 year in-store labor, per its product page and Hayward's 2026 Expert Line terms for pressure cleaners. Under those terms a Totally Hayward dealer can extend the labor to 2 years in-store; the parts term stays at 2. The Open Line W3TJP100C has no labor coverage, and its parts term is in dispute: its product page says 2 years, but the 2026 Open Line terms give every Open Line product 1 year, naming only salt cells and TracVac cleaners as exceptions. TracJet isn't named. Hayward lists debris bags and bottom skirts among the cleaner parts covered for manufacturing defects only, which it says normally show within 30 days of installation. The manual excludes freeze damage, negligence, improper installation and improper use or care. Without proof of purchase, it takes the manufacturing date as the purchase date. Hayward's warranty page adds that coverage applies only to products bought from Hayward or an authorized seller, cannot start before the delivery date, and gains 90 days when the product is registered.
